Flames Add Modin.
Calgary Flames general manager Jay Feaster added a former member of his 2004 Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning roster, acquiring Fredrik Modin from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for a seventh round pick in 2011.
Modin, 36, is a former six-time 40-plus point man, including a 29-goal, 57-point performance during the 2003-04 season, plus 19 points in 23 playoff games helping the Lightning to their only Cup championship.
His offensive game however has been in decline since 2006-07, when he netted 42 points with Columbus, the last time he reached that mark.
Back and knee injuries along with age may have slowed Modin but he still has a big shot and could be effective perhaps in power-play situations. He's not likely to see much time on the top two lines.
Modin's also an unrestricted free agent this summer and is currently making an affordable $800K this season so the Flames aren't adding significant salary here.
It's a low risk acquisition which provides some additional experienced depth to their forward lines without giving up much in return.
