Nearly a week after it was first reported the St. Louis Blues have signed forward Kyle Wellwood to a one-year contract. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

He'll still have to clear waivers as he began this season playing in Russia. The Blues will know by noon ET on January 18th if he'll be joining them or another NHL club.

**UPDATE** The San Jose Sharks claimed Wellwood off waivers today. That's twice now the Blues have attempted to sign an unrestricted free agent only to lose them to another club via waivers. Two weeks ago the Nashville Predators claimed Marek Svatos off waivers one day after the Blues had signed him to a one-year contract.
